MATOSINHOS (FIBA U20 Women's European Championship 2017) - Spain and Slovenia will contest the Final of the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship 2017, while both Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina have been relegated.
On an action-packed day in Matosinhos, Slovenia made more history after taking a thrilling 81-75 win against France to reach the title game for the first time. Falling behind by double-digits, they produced a memorable comeback success, built on five players accumulating double-digit scoring returns. Aleksandra Kroselj was the standout performer with 22 points.
Spain reached an astonishing ninth-straight Final, outlasting Russia 67-55. It was another all-round team performance and while they started slowly, their usual third quarter uplift took them away from their opponents, with Maria Conde scoring a team-high 15 points.
At the other end of the spectrum, Turkey are already contemplating life in Division B during 2018 after they lost an overtime heart-breaker 80-72 to Netherlands. That was due to a stellar 27 points and 16 rebounds from Janis Ndiba.
Netherlands will play Lithuania on Sunday in a straight fight to stay in the top tier. That is mainly down to Laura Juskaite who put in a similarly terrific line of 25 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists as Lithuania pipped a crestfallen Bosnia and Herzegovina 80-77.
Elsewhere, there was an exciting double-overtime win for Italy against Latvia, with Hungary, Serbia and Poland also taking victories.
